France is popular with Brits as it offers them the chance to get away to a "rural idyll", it has been claimed.
According to Shelter Offshore, British people are drawn to a holiday in France for a number of reasons.
"For some, it's the fact that France is geographically so close to the UK and yet culturally, historically, aesthetically so different," said director of Shelter Offshore Rhiannon Davies.
She went on to say that areas which continue to be popular in France include the south of the country and the capital city Paris.
Brits who invest in property in the country and take regular trips there may find an annual travel insurance policy better value for money that getting single trip holiday insurance each time they go away.
France was recently voted the best place to live in Europe in the uSwitch.com quality of life survey.
