Millions of Britons are planning on a holiday in the sun this autumn in a bid to beat the UK's dreary weather, it has been revealed.
Research conducted by TripAdvisor has found that nearly one in five are planning to take a holiday during the coming season, with a third of those looking to take a "romantic" break.
The poll also discovered that people in the UK enjoyed holidaying abroad in this period as tourist numbers are lower than in the peak summer season.
Ian Rumgay, TripAdvisor's European communications manager, said: "Autumn is a great time to travel for many people and it would seem that the economic woes are not going to deter them.
"It is interesting to see that a romantic getaway has become a confirmed autumn favourite. Could it really be the new spring for lovers?"
Another recent investigation revealed that a large number of Brits preferred to shop abroad over Christmas, with New York, Cologne, Berlin and Budapest being among the favourite destinations.
