Disabled travellers told to check travel insurance

Disabled holidaymakers looking for a change of scenery have been advised on a number of things they should do before they begin their holiday, one of which is to make sure any specialist equipment is covered under their travel insurance.
The disability advice charity Tourism for All has provided disabled travellers with a check-list of the things they should do before they embark on their break.
Brian Seaman, head of consultancy at the charity, has told passengers to make 'requirements' about certain facilities they may need rather than a 'request' because these are slightly different.
Also extra medication should be taken to cover unforeseen circumstances such as delays.
He concluded: "If you use a wheelchair or have any equipment, you need to find out if they are insured or not under the standard policy or if you need to take an extension to the policy to cover those items.
"You may need to ask a few questions about the facilities; even if it says it is accessible you should find out whether it meets your particular needs."
From July 2008 a new European Regulation will mean that it is the responsibility of the airport to meet disabled customers' needs.
