EHIC not a travel insurance replacement

EHIC not a travel insurance replacement

Many are putting themselves at serious risk of financial difficulty by not getting good travel insurance cover, American Express has said.

Although the EHIC entitles UK residents to free healthcare in most EU countries, the card will not cover holiday cancellation, curtailment or repatriation.

Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services, said: "With so many Brits planning a summer holiday in Europe this month, travellers should be careful not to rely on EHICs.

"They are not a substitute for comprehensive travel insurance so you will not be covered for delays, loss of baggage or cancellations or experience other benefits of having an independent travel insurance policy."

Holidaymakers who are planning any risky adventure trips to Europe will need to make sure they have adequate cover even more, as the EHIC may sometimes only lead to reduced cost healthcare, and in case of serious injury visitors may still find themselves in trouble. ADNFCR-1320-ID-18720954-ADNFCR
