Big bags may be in fashion this season but experts are warning that those who carry them may be targeted by thieves.
As large numbers of stylish Brits head off on their Easter holiday with their huge hand luggage, one building society is urging travellers to take out adequate travel insurance.
The advice from Cheshire Building Society comes as recent data shows than 45 per cent of people carry between £200 and £500 worth of personal belongings on them every day.
Karen Torson, Cheshire Building Society partnerships business manager, said: "Followers of fashion are fans of the over-sized handbag, however, it does mean people can pack more contents in.
"It is important that people don't underestimate what their belongings are worth and should check that everything being carried around with them is covered by their home insurance policy for loss or theft."
The most common items carried in people's hand luggage after there tickets and passports are mobile phones, mp3 players and wallets.
