Good research 'could be key to successful break'

Carrying out research before heading off on a holiday could make a real difference to the level of enjoyment Brits get from their break, it has been suggested.

According to travel website Trip Advisor, "researching a destination before travelling to it can mean the difference between a dream holiday and a living nightmare".

To help try and make sure that nothing can spoil a trip, Brits may also find that having a travel insurance policy is as wise as checking out the place they are going online before visiting.

Spokeswoman from Trip Advisor Amelie Hurst said that in recent months, a number of high-profile incidents have shown that British tourists often do not think about the consequences that their behaviour on holiday can have.

She advised people to research local customs and laws to try and make sure that they do not run into trouble on their holiday, which could require claiming on travel insurance.

Recent figures from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office showed that in proportion to the number of visitors countries attract, Brits are most likely to be arrested in the UAE, Thailand and the USA.
