Low cost travel insurance should encourage travellers

As many Brits continue to show determination in having a summer holiday, the cost of purchasing travel insurance has never been so low, according to new research.
However the research from Defaqto, the retail financial industry researchers, has found that around one in seven travellers still decide against picking up a form of travel insurance to cover their trip.
In its report, Travel Insurance 2008 - Adapting to a Changing World, Defaqto looked at the holiday market between 2002 and 2006 and found that only travellers buying annual travel cover to the USA would have suffered from a hike in cover prices, although they are cheaper now than they were in 2003.
Overall the research looked into the prices of policies for 235 single trips and 245 annual trips.
Report author Brian Brown said: "The availability of a huge number of policies, many of them online, has driven many insurers to lower their premiums"
He added that with some travel insurance policies available for £6 for a week's trip to Europe, there is no excuse for somebody not to take out cover.
Recent research from TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel community, found Rhodes in Greece to be the top European destination to visit.
