'Savvy travellers' will benefit from cheap flights

Holidaymakers will have to be "savvy travellers" if they want to take advantage of cheap flights when they go abroad, it has been stated.
Tom Hall, travel editor at travel book publishers Lonely Planet, has said that holidaymakers will have to be well prepared if they want to benefit from a cheap flight.
He added that savvy travellers will need to do things including booking flights early, be prepared to travel at anti-social times, travel only with hand luggage and check in online to get the best deals.
Mr Hall concluded that "early bookers will always score the best deals when it comes to cheap flights" but everyone should keep their eyes peeled to be opportunistic and gain a special deal.
Holidaymakers catching flights abroad are advised to take out a travel insurance policy to cover them in case of flight delays or cancellations.
Travellers that go away fairly often are also advised to take out annual travel insurance to benefit from larger savings.
Recent research from American Express Insurance Services found that 69 per cent of travellers will take out annual travel insurance within the next 12 months.
