A pensioner who has taken part in runs across Europe is aiming to clock up more than 400 miles in marathons during 2013. Bill Mitchell, 68, clocked up 300 miles last year and has now set his sights on going even further.

Mitchell started running seriously in 2009 and has since tackled a 50-mile "ultra-marathon" around the streets of Paris, as well as a marathon in Valencia - where he recorded his best time of four hours and 10 minutes. But the pensioner from Turnditch in Derbyshire wants to go even faster and is challenging himself to run more than 15 lung-busting journeys by December.

He has just signed up to the London-to-Brighton Challenge, a 100km event that is scheduled to take place on May 25 and 26. "There is this goal inside me of doing two marathons a month for a year but I don't think it will be practical. But I want to beat last year and pass through 400 miles," said Mitchell. If you're aged over 60 and jetting off for an active holiday or to simply relax on a beach, taking out seniors travel insurance is a must.
