More mature travellers are proving that age is just a state of mind, as research reveals that older tourists are heading to clubbing hotspots.

According to new research, not only are over-55s increasingly heading to party heartlands such as Magaluf and Ibiza but they are also not averse to tabletop dancing and holiday flings.

The study found that one in five over-55s have danced with a stranger while out of the country, and that almost 15% have had a run-in with local police.

Among the other results, the poll found that over-55s are less likely to want to spend time with their family while on holiday than 18 to 24 year olds, and that 2% have stripped off while away.

Commenting on the findings, research commissioner Paul Thilo said: "Our research demonstrates that older generations are remaining young at heart and choosing holidays that involve the kind of activities that traditionally have been the preserve of the young."

Older travellers are reminded that elevated dancing is not without its risks, and that party-hungry tourists should arrange senior travel insurance before taking to the tabletops.
