Winter sports take up third of travel insurance claims

Over one third of travel insurance claims come from skiers and snowboarders, new research has shown.

The personal injury specialist Paul Rooney Partnership has found that winter sports are a major source of accidents while on holiday.

The firm also found that there was a clear distinction between accidents for both sports, with skiers most likely to hurt their knees or thumbs, and snowboards more likely to suffer trauma to the forearm, wrists or ankles.

A spokesman for the company said: "Compared to a beach holiday, the chances of injury are considerably higher, so it's especially important that skiers and snowboarders take out a good insurance policy that will cover them in the event of an accident on the slopes."

The spokesman added that skiing is growing more and more popular with young Brits travelling abroad - many of them trying the sport for the first time.

MoneySupermarket research found that nearly 30 per cent of skiers and snowboards opt not to take out travel insurance.ADNFCR-1320-ID-18779875-ADNFCR
