T5 chaos highlights need for travel insurance

Delayed flights and lost baggage at the new Heathrow Terminal 5 building have highlighted the importance of having adequate travel insurance.

Passengers departing from the new hub are being urged to check their policies to see if they are covered for severe delays and flight cancellations.

According to MSN Money, many providers do include such eventualities in their cover plans and those who take out insurance could be given a pay out.

Sarah Modlock at the website advised travellers to take a look at their travel insurance documents as there is a possibility they will be covered.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from British Airways, the only airline which has flights leaving Terminal 5, said that baggage systems at Heathrow cannot cope with the amount of passengers.

"We have been handling 23,000 transfer bags at Heathrow per day with processes and systems which were designed to handle around 18,000 per day," he said. ADNFCR-1320-ID-18529130-ADNFCR
