Travel companies must join together and come up with a sector-wide strategy on how to cope with sustainable travel issues and climate change, it has been claimed.
According to The Co-operative Travel, there needs to be a common approach from the travel sector and also noted that such issues cannot "be imposed" on travellers.
"It has got be something where a company takes the lead to partner with major organisations to help develop a common approach to sustainability and climate change and still allows individual companies to make their own contribution," it said.
Eco-friendly travel could be an important issue for many holidaymakers looking to get travel insurance and jet off and they may want to travel with companies whose policies they agree with.
According to the World Travel Market, TUI Travel is aiming to reduce its carbon footprint by adding more technologically-advanced aircraft to its fleet of planes.
