A large percentage of holidaymakers buy travel insurance because it offers them peace of mind throughout their break, recent research has found.
Research from TripAdvisor, discovered that 68 per cent of British holidaymakers take out travel insurance because it cuts down on the level of worrying they go through when on holiday.
The research polled 3,700 travellers from around the world and of the foreign tourists surveyed, 51 per cent declared that they took out travel insurance because of the peace of mind it provides.
For British travellers, medical cover was deemed as the most important aspect of the cover, with 76 per cent of respondents giving that answer, while this was only seen as the main importance by 38 per cent of travellers worldwide.
Instead, the most important part of the cover for 39 per cent of foreign travellers was trip cancellation, compared to only 11 per cent of Brits.
Young holidaymakers tempted to rely on the free travel insurance that comes alongside a new credit card have been told by an independent financial advisor that it is unlikely to be sufficient, reports the Independent.
