The importance of taking out adequate travel insurance has been highlighted by the number of flights cancelled due to heavy snow this weekend. Hundreds of passengers were left stranded as airports across the country grounded flights out of the UK.Snow and ice are expected to continue to effect parts of the UK today and see many unable to jet of for holidays or business trips. Heathrow's new Terminal 5 was also hit hard by the adverse weather conditions with a reported 138 flights cancelled yesterday. Speaking to the Times this morning, a British Airways spokesperson said of the delays: "This is not caused by the baggage system, this is simply because of the weather yesterday."There were a number of aircraft that were out of position which means that had a knock-on effect with the schedule today."Travellers are being urged to check their travel insurance policies carefully and ensure they are covered for flight cancellation and delay.
