During hard times, it is essential for consumers that they do not pay over the odds for financial essentials such as travel insurance, according to the Telegraph.
Advising consumers on how best to manage their budgets during the recession, it suggested that people could save money by taking out an annual travel insurance policy if they will be taking more than one holiday.
"Shop around using the internet and don't buy the deal offered by your travel agent, airline or tour operator as these tend to cost far more," the newspaper stated.
It also urged people to check what exactly is covered on cheaper premiums as these often contain significant exclusions such as cancellation cover or lost baggage.
Meanwhile, travel website Hotels.com has suggested that British holidaymakers would rather take shorter breaks than give up their holidays altogether.
