Travel insurance crucial for holidaymakers

Consumer champion fairinvestment.co.uk has urged travellers to take out holiday insurance, following the release of new figures from a leading travel operator.
The website advised holidaymakers to renew annual travel insurance policies after TUI Travel indicated that the winter 2008/09 season looks set to be just as busy as last year, despite the negative effects of recession.
The owner of Thomson and First Choice revealed in its interim management statement that demand remains strong among consumers for holidays to Egypt, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
“Consumer demand remains very strong for medium-haul destinations, with both Turkey and Egypt benefiting while bookings for All-Inclusive products are significantly ahead of last year," TUI said.
What's more, the report contained research suggesting that 87 per cent of customers who had booked a package holiday with TUI's in the first weeks of 2008 but have not yet done so this year still intend to take an overseas holiday.
Interestingly, 94 per cent of those suggested they will take a package holiday in the summer - up from 85 per cent in the 2008 survey - indicating that more customers intend to travel with ATOL protection this year, following the recent collapse of several airlines.
