Australia and New Zealand 'safe for gappers'

Australia and New Zealand are often the destinations of choice for Brits taking a gap year as they are seen as being safe places to visit and are also similar to the UK.

According to Gapforce, which offers adventure holidays around the globe, Brits taking gap years to such countries "don't ask too many questions" as they are seen to be less risky than many other gap year destinations.

However, travellers should still ensure that their backpackers travel insurance covers them for any activities they may plan to take part in on a gap year, such as bungee jumping or rafting.

Brits who are seeking a really adventurous gap year may find it better to invest in a dedicated gap year travel insurance policy to give them the level of protection they may need.

Founder of Gapforce Marcus Watts said that the safest way for Brits to go on a gap year is to go with an organisation that is based in the UK.

"Having a briefing or open day where they can speak face to face with someone who has come back from the area they are going to, is a great way to find out about the area," he pointed out.
