Gap year travellers 'need to think about finances'

Those planning on jetting off on a gap year need to make sure they are fully aware of how much such a trip will cost, it has been pointed out.
As well as this, gap year travellers should aim to raise as much cash as possible before they set off, said Katie Mossman, a spokeswoman from gap year travel firm i-to-i.
When planning such an excursion, Brits may find it useful to make a holiday budget including everything they need to spend money on, such as backpacker travel insurance, flights and hotels.
Ms Mossman noted that many people on gap years get into difficulty when they try and do too much in too short a space of time.
"If they say, 'I am going to travel the world in six months', it's unrealistic. If they are not aware of how much they are spending, especially if it is in cash then it doesn't seem as real as money on a card," she said.
