STA urges backpackers to consider travel insurance options

One organisation is warning travellers to make sure they take into account where they are going and what they will be doing when booking their travel insurance, before heading off on a gap year.
Backpacking travel insurance is essential for the thousands of graduates and young travellers who head abroad on backpacking tours and trips each year, but many mistakenly believe there is a "one size fits all" option, claims STA Travel.
The tour experts explained that travel insurance policies are all different, and need to be tailored to the individual depending on what it is they intend to do – such as skiing and other activities – and where it is they are likely to be going.
A spokesperson for STA Travel said: "Every travel insurance policy is different offering the consumers different inclusions and levels of cover.
"It is important for a customer to assess their needs when it comes to travel insurance, for instance assessing the overall value of the items they are travelling with."
She added that travellers should ask themselves whether they would be working while abroad and what they need to do if they lengthen their trip.
