The European cruise industry will witness further growth in the near future, which is undoubtedly good news for cruise insurance providers.
That is according to the European Cruise Council (ECC), which has disclosed that spending by cruise-ship passengers has increased at ports along the continent by 69 per cent since 2005.
In addition, the industry organisation revealed that Italy and Greece were the two most popular destinations for cruise ships, while Spain retained its position in third.
Despite the effects of the recession troubling Europe, David Dingle, chairman of the ECC, believes that the quantity of cruise passengers will continue to increase in the next few years.
He said: "With the introduction this year of new ships dedicated to the European market we are confident of continued passenger growth."
Earlier this month, the International Maritime Bureau disclosed that no passenger vessel had ever been boarded by pirates - as it sought to calm consumer fears over the safety of cruises.
