Plans to build the Titanic II -a replica of the original - are to be unveiled in December
Further details regarding a cruise ship project dubbed "Titanic II" are to be revealed before the end of the year. The project, which an Australian billionaire is bankrolling, is to be unveiled at a dinner in New York in December.
The ship is to be a replica of the original, with nine decks and 840 rooms. Australian billionaire Clive Palmer is funding the project, while the ship is to be built in China. The project launch is set to take place on the retired aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, which is moored in New York. Titanic II is expected to make its first cruise in 2016 from Southampton, the port from which the original ship departed. With a few years between then and now travellers have plenty of time to save up, but they should also remember to arrange
cruise travel insurance as well.
"Since we announced our plan in April we've had a huge amount of interest, particularly from people wanting to know how they can secure a booking for the maiden voyage, along with commercial sponsors," Palmer told the media.
