TUI: People searching for adventure on holidays

Brits are increasingly searching for holidays which offer them more than a chance to relax on a beach, it has been said.

According to the activity sector PR manager for TUI Travel Lynsey Devon whereas in the 1970s people wanted to jet off to sunnier climes to "lie on beaches and do absolutely nothing", the modern traveller is searching for adventure.

If Brits think that an adventurous holiday may lead them to take part in activities such as bungee jumping or sky diving, checking that their travel insurance covers them for the medical treatment needed for any injury obtained while doing so is advised.

Ms Devon noted that people taking a holiday now want an experience that they can tell everybody back at home about on their return.

Holidays involving trekking and sailing are increasingly popular among Brits, she said, as are "experimental" breaks such as jetting off to Nepal to help with a home build project.
