A ski and snowboard resort in Las Vegas is set to undergo major expansion
The Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort will include more trails and lifts, a hiking area and other general improvements as part of a major expansion strategy.
Located in the Mount Charleston area, the resort will be expanded under a $35 million development plan.
The resort currently covers 70 acres, and is expected to encompass nearly 500 acres after the completion of the project.
Adventure lovers planning to visit a ski resort this year may find it useful to have a suitable sports travel insurance policy in place ahead of going on a holiday.
Kevin Stickelman, president and general manager of the ski resort, said renovation work is likely to be completed by 2020.
As part of the expansion process, 50 trails and 10 lifts, a hiking area as well as two new base lodges for retail and food will be added to the resort, while it will also feature increased snow-making ability.
Mr Stickelman said: "There will be enough water storage capacity to make snow on lower and mid-mountain runs."
The project, which has received the go-ahead from to the US Forest Service, will also facilitate new employment opportunities in the area.
Currently the resort employs 220 seasonal and winter workers, together with 10 full-time instructors.
The expansion scheme will create nearly 400 seasonal jobs, about 20 full-time positions and other summer jobs.
