Many golfers are attracted to Portugal
Europe's triumphant Ryder Cup team may have been led by a golfer from Spain but it was neighbouring Portugal that was named Europe's leading golf destination at a prestigious awards ceremony.
British golfers, many wise enough to ensure they have
sports travel insurance, flock to Portugal each year to play on the courses of the Algarve and elsewhere. And now the country's golfing industry has been recognised at the World Travel Awards Europe Gala Ceremony.
Staged at Portugal's new Conrad Algarve resort, which boasts a PGA-qualified golf pro, the event proved hugely successful for the host country as it picked up a total of seven awards. The Algarve was named Europe's leading beach destination, with the Conrad Algarve itself crowned the continent's leading new resort. Turismo de Portugal director Filipe Silva welcomed the international recognition, adding: "Portugal's product offering is diverse, of a high quality and excellent value, all of which are clearly highlighted in the accolades received."
