The cheapest ski destination in Europe is Bansko, according to research

A new study has revealed that Europe's best-value ski destinations this winter are Bulgaria, Germany and Andorra.

The TripIndex Ski list was compiled by travel website TripAdvisor to offer a comparison of prices of popular European ski holiday spots tracked against the British pound.

The list takes into account the total cost of hotel accommodation for a night, one day's ski pass and equipment hire, a local meal and a bottle of beer.

Bansko in Bulgaria topped the affordability list with a total TripIndex cost of £108, ahead of Italy's Mount Etna (£117.73) and Germany's Berchtesgaden (£150.31).

The list of best-value nations was led by Andorra and Germany, with three destinations from each country finding a place in the top 10.

However, before running for the slopes holidaymakers are advised to first take out comprehensive sports travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances.

Emma Shaw, a spokesperson for TripAdvisor, said: "TripIndex Ski reveals the best-value destination for British travellers to be in Bulgaria - not only are the core items less expensive, but the favourable exchange rate means your British pound will go further."
