Swiss ski resort Zermatt is being highlighted as a good spot for skiers this winter
The variety of slopes at Zermatt is one reason the area is an attractive spot for ski holidays in Switzerland.
Zermatt Tourism's media and content manager Edith Zweifel pointed to ski events such as the curling trophy event Horu-Trophy, as one of the many attractions. The event attracts crowds internationally and runs from January 12 to 15, 2012.
Winter holidaymakers looking for a good run of skiing need to ensure they take out sports travel insurance in case of accidents.
Other events in the area include Mountain Race Gebirgslauf Zermatt - Rothorn on February 25 for ski runners and ski tourers. Ski alpinists can take on the hardest team race in the world in the form of Patrouille des Glaciers. This starts in Zermattand and finishes in Verbier.
For variety, visitors can take in the music festival Zermatt Unplugged which combines live performances and a morning of skiing. Zermat, which runs from April 17 to 21, has a cinema, a gallery and many concerts before and during Christmas, with international choirs and chamber orchestras.
"Zermatt is a very attractive place because you can find whatever you need for relaxing and interesting holidays," said Ms Zweifel.
