France warms up for coming ski season

French ski resorts are currently warming up for what could be the coolest ski season on record.
The country is set to host the World Alpine Ski Championship early in 2009, and has been busy preparing for the expected influx of tourists.
Skiers looking to get away this autumn though will be pleased to find that many resorts have already upgraded and improved their facilities in preparations for next year's Championship.
Jean-Pierre Courteau, UK director of Maison de la France, said: "French ski resorts are investing a lot of money to improve their accommodation and to offer skiers a greener environment and these improvements should help France to keep its pole position with British skiers."
Mr Courteau added that the development of low-cost carrier networks also allowed winter sports enthusiasts direct access to their favoured resorts.
Research published at the start of this month revealed that one third of travel insurance claims were for skiing or snowboarding accidents.
