Ski resorts across Europe and North America will be opening early this week following a deluge of snow across both continents, Travel Mole reports.
Countries reporting higher than expected snowfall in recent days include Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Italy and Norway. Snow depth in the Swiss resort of Zermatt has reportedly reached 220cm on upper slopes.
Other resorts to announce early openings include Hemsedal in Norway; Obergurgl in Austria; Snowbird in Utah; Mammoth in California; and Lenzerheide in Switzerland.
Alyn Morgan, of the Ski Club of Great Britain, said: "After some good periods of snow this month, including heavy snow over the past couple of days in Europe, the winter ski season really feels like it is upon us.
He added: "It bodes well for good early season conditions and hopefully good snow cover for the festive period."
