With record numbers of British holidaymakers expected to take to the peaks this winter, esure is advising skiers and snowboarders to look at the small-print in their travel insurance policies.
According to spokesperson Asia Manzoor, people who fail to check the terms and conditions of their winter sports travel insurance policies run the risk of not being protected.
"Any winter sports holiday comes with a certain element of risk," she noted. "Whether on a nursery slope or a black run, accidents do happen and it's crucial to have medical cover to avoid footing a hefty bill.
"With the rise in high-adrenaline adventure sports - such as heli-skiing and ice-lake diving - it's also important to check the insurance small-print before booking and be mindful of any exclusions."
According to estimates drawn up by the Foreign Commonwealth Office, the cost of repatriation from the east coast of America via air ambulance runs as high as £45,000.
