The Indonesian island of Bali has emerged as a luxury hotspot
A prestigious star rating service has announced its awards for 2017.
The Forbes Travel Guide has unveiled its 59th list of worldwide star rating recipients and has highlighted countries with the highest concentration of hotels achieving more than four stars.
Gerard J Inzerillo, chief executive officer of the Forbes Travel Guide, said: "We are excited to recognise the 2017 Star Rating recipients, an exceptional collection of hotels, restaurants and spas with a strong culture of service."
Luxury hotspots
There are 175 hotels that have achieved five-star status in this year's luxury ratings. Alongside 478 four-star establishments and 237 "recommended" hotels.
Bali is an apparent magnet for luxury, having been bestowed three five-star awards for the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay, Four Seasons Resort at Sayan and the Villas at Ayana.
The Indonesian island also bagged 10 four stars and three recommended awards in the prominent honours.
Some 38 new luxury accommodations have made the top picks, including the recently restored Ritz Hotel in Paris, London's 30-room Hotel 41 and Rome's 14-suite Portrait Roma.
Hong Kong's Mandarin Oriental and the Wynn in Macau both set a new record, achieving a total of six separate five-star awards for their hotels, restaurants and spas.
Anyone planning an overseas trip can relax and enjoy peace of mind by taking out trusted travel insurance.
'Impeccable standards'
Mr Inzerillo says in an "online environment of confusion and clutter", Forbes Travel Guide is the "most trusted source of information" that travellers can go to when making decisions about future trips.
He said: "This year's star-rated properties - the largest and most global group in the company's history - achieved an impeccable standard of excellence in hospitality, underscoring our overall mission of positively contributing to the international tourism industry as well as the individual hotel experience.
"We are proud to congratulate everyone who showed dedication to their guests and employees."
