Heathrow Airport has become the 42nd domestic sponsor of the London Olympics
As many as 80% of the people travelling to the London 2012 Games are expected to use Heathrow Airport, it has been claimed.
Heathrow has become the 42nd domestic sponsor of the Games in a deal that makes it the host airport for the event - with athletes, officials, sponsors, media and fans among those passing through.
For Olympic fans across the globe, now is the time to grab the best travel insurance deal available to them ahead of their trip to London.
The day after the Olympic closing ceremony - August 13 next year - is expected to be Heathrow's busiest day ever. Around 218,000 bags will leave the airport on the day, official estimates said.
London 2012 is Heathrow's greatest challenge, according to BAA chief executive Colin Matthews.
"Every part of the airport is working together so we can give the world's greatest athletes the world's greatest welcome," he said.
