The majority of holidaymakers in the UK plan to travel overseas for their next break, a poll has found.

According to research from members-only club Voyage Prive, 88% of those questioned plan to travel to another country for their next holiday.

Some 71% are also looking at more long-haul destinations for their trip, according to the company.

John Bevan, managing director of Voyage Prive UK, said: "Our research confirms that foreign holidays are still hugely important to people, but now more than ever they are looking for value for money. Our customers are keen to save money but don't want to compromise on quality."

He added: "Our best sellers over the last 12 months have been city breaks, but over 40% of our bookings are for mid and long-haul destinations."

Whether long-haul or short-haul, a comprehensive travel insurance policy could prove useful for those planning a trip abroad.

Foreign holidays account for more than 90% of the company's sales, with Canary Islands being the most popular destination in 2011.
