Paris was named travellers' number one holiday destination in a global poll
Paris has come out on top in a global poll of the most popular world travel destinations.
The French capital finished ahead of New York City and London in second and third places respectively in the latest annual travellers' choice destination awards, which are based on reviews received by TripAdvisor.
European cities enjoyed great success in the final rankings, accounting for seven of the top 10 positions, with San Francisco and Sydney joining New York as the only non-European destinations.
And it seems tourists will be flocking to purchase travel insurance for trips to France this year, as Paris topped both the world and European tables.
London finished on top in the UK list, ahead of Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool and Belfast.
TripAdvisor spokesperson Angus Struthers expressed delight at London's success in the poll, saying it is "vital" for UK tourism to continue to do well following on from the Jubilee and Olympics.
