Travellers could be faced with huge disruptions at UK airports due to planned strike action

Travellers could be faced with huge disruptions as staff at UK airports, borders and ports are gearing up for strike action next week.

Planned public sector strikes on November 30 in protest to changes to pensions are likely to be supported by border agency workers, so passengers should ensure they are protected by comprehensive travel insurance.

There are rumours that civil servants could be asked to step into the roles and check European passports.

A UK Border Agency spokesman said: "The security of the UK border remains our top priority and it is absolutely right we explore all options to ensure we minimise any disruption caused by planned union action."

Staff brought in would be trained and the changes would not affect the UK's border security, added the spokesman.
