Caravanning to see a big boost in 2009

An extra two million people living in the UK could choose to take a caravan holiday in 2009, potentially creating up to 1,000 jobs in the travel industry, it has been claimed.
Brits choosing to caravan close to home - either as their main holiday or in addition to an overseas vacation - should be aware that holiday insurance can provide them with important cover for repatriation, lost baggage and third-party liability.
According to the National Caravan Council, bookings for outdoor holidays in the UK could rise by as much as 50 per cent this year.
Commenting on the forecast, Ian Ralph, director of UKCampSite.co.uk, suggested that weather will "play a big part" in the success of the camping and caravanning industries this year.
"If we get a reasonable summer then I think the whole industry will reap the benefits, and see a big boost for UK tourism as a whole," he predicted.
Last October, Towergate Bakers - a travel insurance company providing products catered towards caravanners and campers - published research indicating that 65 per cent of Brits will look for a cheap holiday in the year ahead.
