Malta 'increasingly popular' among holidaymakers

Malta is becoming an increasingly popular option among Brits looking for a change from traditional holiday destinations, it has been claimed.

More Brits are steering clear of destinations such as Spain and Greece, according to flight comparison site Cheapflights, instead looking at places such as Malta for their summer breaks.

However, a change in destination should not mean a change in worldwide travel insurance cover, which could prove to be an essential purchase no matter where holidaymakers choose to visit.

Global sales director at the flight's website Francesca Ecsery noted that the site has seen a 74 per cent year-on-year rise in the number of people looking for transport to Malta.

"Fans of the Mediterranean are realising its beaches offer a more affordable alternative to Spain and Greece," she commented.

As well as this, long-haul destinations are continuing to be popular with Brits, Ms Ecsery said, but currency rate changes are seeing short-haul holidays rising in uptake once more.
