Easy, affordable cover for pre-existing medical problems? No trouble!

If you've been seriously ill in the recent past, then you're likely to have had a lot on your plate. Many people choose to take a relaxing holiday as soon as they're well enough to travel in order to get over the misery of it all.

However, what if you were suddenly told that you can't go on your dream trip or that you will have to pay substansially more than the next person for the privilege and your medical travel insurance?

While it sounds like a bad dream, this is what happens to many people every year because a lot of travel insurance providers decide that people with pre-existing medical conditions, no matter how fleeting, are more of a risk than people who haven't been ill.

Even worse, it could be causing people who fear that they will be refused travel cover to lie on their insurance applications.

According to research by PrivateHealth.co.uk cited by Sainsbury's, a whopping 1.3 million people with pre-existing medical conditions took a holiday in 2009 without telling their insurance provider about it.

This could be a dangerous choice if something were to go wrong, since the insurance would not extend to cover any bills.

So the general consensus is that keeping mum is a bad thing to do. However, this still doesn't solve the problem of cost if you do disclose your pre-existing condition.

Luckily though, there are companies you can approach that will not discriminate in terms of your medical history and won't make you pay through the nose for it.

Here at World First, we are one of them - earlier this month we launched a special tool on our website that allows you to fill in your medical details on your PC so that you can get travel insurance quotes in minutes.

This reduces the need to speak to someone on the phone - although we still offer that service if you prefer to talk to a real person - so you don't have to discuss your medical problems if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

"Many of our customers have told us they find discussing their condition on the phone highly embarrassing or cannot do it during working hours, which is why we have launched our new online screening process. It is available 24/7 and is simple and intuitive to use," explained our insurance guru Martin Rothwell.

We are also different from most companies in that we don't care what problems you've had (in the nicest possible way, of course!).

Whether you're a sufferer of heart conditions, HIV or multiple sclerosis, or more transitory illnesses like cancer and blood clots, we can offer you sensibly-priced cover.

"Our customers say we are often hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds cheaper than the nearest competitive quote," Martin added.

One person who would agree with this is a lady named Brenda Edwards, whom we recently helped to organise single trip travel insurance.

Brenda, 78, has angina and found that her trip to see family in the US was becoming unfeasible due to the cost of holiday cover.

However, she came across our number, called us and was quickly given a quote of £260.98, much lower than she had been offered elsewhere. The last we heard, Brenda had a fabulous time and thoroughly enjoyed the festive season in America!

So if you have pre-existing medical conditions and want to cross the Channel, the Atlantic or anything in between, don't hesitate to give us a ring or check our website to make travel insurance one less thing you have to worry about.
