Abta has issued health and safety advice for skiers
Abta has launched a new campaign called Get Fit For Ski, providing health and safety advice and recommended warm-up exercises for people taking winter sports holidays.
Working alongside the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Ski Club Great Britain, Abta has created an eight-point winter sports check list, which includes various useful tips and suggestions.
According to the association, just 41% of people ensure their insurance covers activities such as skiing or watersports before taking to the slopes or the sea.
The figures underpin the importance of sports travel insurance for those planning skiing holidays, showing how much people could end up paying if they're not covered.
A fractured leg could cost up to £40,000 to treat in the US, while a knee injury could mean spending £8,000 in Austria.
FCO spokeswoman Lynda St Cooke said: "We strongly advise anyone hitting the slopes this winter to take out comprehensive travel insurance and make sure you have an up to date EHIC card."
