One of European skiing's hidden gems is undergoing a huge 11 million euros facelift, it has been revealed.
The Slovak ski resort of Tatranska Lomnica is currently subject to a huge redevelopment which will elevate it to the position of one Europe's premier winter sports locations.
Located high in the Tatras Mountains, work on the resort is set to be completed in time for the coming ski season, which will see millions of Brits hitting the piste.
A spokesperson for the Slovakian Tourist Office said: "The close proximity of the slopes to an international airport, just two hours flying time from the UK, with a minimal transfer time [and] prices up to a third cheaper than mainstream European resorts … makes Tatranska Lomnica one of the most viable ski weekend destinations in Europe."
Part of the Carpathian Mountains, the Tatras are renowned for the being the world's shortest mountain range at just 24 kilometres long.
Research published earlier in the month showed that a third of travel insurance claims were for injuries from skiing or snowboarding accidents.
